No. 4 Virginia Comes Back to Win 69-61 at No. 8 North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 4 Virginia (21-2, 9-2 ACC) closed the game on a 12-2 run to take the 69-61 win on the road at No. 8 North Carolina (19-5, 9-2 ACC) on Monday night at the Dean Smith Center.
Junior Kyle Guy (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore De’Andre Hunter (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Cavaliers with 20 points each, while junior Ty Jerome (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added 15 points. Jerome finished with his second career double-double with 11 assists.
The Cavaliers shot 53 percent in the game, while holding North Carolina to 35 percent.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kihei Clark hit a three, then came away with a steal on the in-bounds to lead to a three for Guy as UVA took an 8-6 lead. UNC went ahead by three with a 5-0 run but the Cavaliers responded with 10 consecutive points after threes from Guy and Jerome to spark the run. UNC cut the UVA lead to one, but UVA had a 12-5 run over five minutes and took a 36-29 lead into the half.
UNC used a 17-3 run to lead 49-43. Hunter halted the run with a long jumper. The Cavaliers tied the game with threes by Jerome and Guy. UVA closed out the game on a 12-2 run to take the win.
THE GAME BALL GOES TO
Kyle Guy scored 20 points (7-of-13) with five 3-pointers. He his three of his 3-pointers in the final seven minutes of the game to help UVA to the win.
