CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia softball senior Lacy Smith (Lancaster, Pa.) has been named the ACC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday (March 12). The award is the first for Smith in her career and first by a Virginia player this season.

Smith went 5-for-9 at the plate with a home run and four RBI against Pitt to help Virginia start ACC play 3-0 for the first time since 2012. The first baseman launched her eighth home run of the season in the series, tying her career high for a single season in just 19 games. Her four RBI were a team-high in the series.

Smith is now hitting .453 on the season for the Cavaliers with a total of 23 RBI. She is just five RBI shy of matching her single-season high and is five home runs shy of Virginia’s all-time record.

Virginia and Smith return to action this afternoon at Charlotte in a 4 p.m. first pitch.
