Three Hoos Post Top-10 Finishes at Tar Heel Classic
Higuey, La Romana, Dominican Republic – The No. 16 Virginia women’s golf team placed three players in the top 10 to help the Cavaliers finish second at the Tar Heel Classic that was held at the Teeth of the Dog Course in Higuey, La Romana of the Dominican Republic. UVA shot 1-over 289 during Saturday’s final round for a 54-hole total of 4-under 860. No. 12 Wake Forest took the team crown at 23-under 841.
UVA sophomore Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) and seniors Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) and Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) all finished in the top-10 for the Cavaliers. It marked the first time since the 2016 ACC Championships the Hoos had three competitors finish in the top-10 of a tournament.
Lillie led that group with a third-place showing, her best finish of the season and the sixth top-10 of her career. She shot 3-under 69 on Saturday for a two-day total of 4-under 212. That score matched her best collegiate tournament result. Lillie’s final round was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the Teeth of the Dog Course’s par-3, 13th hole.
Redding, who opened the tournament with a career-best 6-under 66 during the first round, shot 2-over 74 on Saturday and was fifth at 3-under 213. That was her eighth top-10 finish at UVA and her best performance in three spring events this year.
Patrick finished ninth at 1-over 217 to post the fifth top-10 in her career. She shot 76 during the final round.
UVA’s scoring was rounded out by a 26th-place finish from senior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) at 6-over 222 and a 57th-place performance by junior Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) at 230. Ford shot even-par 72 on Saturday.
