UVA Tied for Third After Opening Round at Bryan National Collegiate
Browns Summit, N.C. – The No. 15 Virginia women’s golf team is tied for third-place after Friday’s opening round of play at the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 3-over 291 to share third place with No. 36 North Carolina. No. 12 Wake Forest, the co-host for the event, leads the 17-team field at 14-under 274.
Senior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.), who was UVA’s top finisher at the tournament last year, posted the team’s low round. She shot 1-under 71, her best 18-hole score of the season, and stands in seventh place.
Sophomore Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) and senior Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) are tied for 16th place at 1-over 73. Senior Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) is in 25th place after shooting 2-over 74. Junior Julia Ford rounded out UVA’s scoring with a 78. She ended the day in 64th position.
Freshman Riley Smyth (Cary, N.C.) is competing as an individual in the field. She also shot 73 to tie for 16th place with Lillie and Redding.
Wake Forest’s Emilia Migliaccio leads the field after posting the day’s best score at 5-under 67.
The second round of the tournament will be played Saturday. UVA will tee off from No. 1 starting at 9:15 while paired with Charlotte and Virginia Tech. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
