Virginia Concludes Opening Day of Columbia Challenge

New York- The Virginia men’s track and field team concluded the opening day of the Dr. Sanders Columbia Challenge on Friday (Jan. 25) at the New York City Armory in New York.
 
Three Cavaliers represented the team during the day’s competition as freshman Ayende Watson (Baltimore, Md.) led the team with his performance in the long jump. Watson reached 7.21m (23’8″) with his fourth jump in the event, which placed him fourth overall in the competition.
 
Senior Emmanuel Jackson (Raleigh, N.C.) ran a time of 8.16 in the 60m hurdles, recording the ninth-best time of the day.
 
The team closed the opening day of competition with the men’s distance medley relay team of redshirt junior Matthew Novak (Glen Allen, Va.), senior Jake Dixon (Falmouth, Maine), junior AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) and redshirt junior Ari Klau (West Harford, Conn.) capturing a time of 9:45.55 to finish fifth in the meet.
 
The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow for day two of the Dr. Sanders Columbia Challenge.
