Mamadi Diakite (Conakry, Guinea, Africa) had a team-high 19 points with six rebounds. Kihei Clark (Woodland Hills, Calif.) had a career-high 15 points with four assists and three rebounds. Braxton Key (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Jay Huff (Durham, N.C.) added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
 
Virginia shot 47 percent from the field, 51.9 percent in the second half, and Vermont shot 38 percent. UVA led in points in the paint (22-8) and points off turnovers (20-11). Anthony Lamb had a game-high 30 points for Vermont.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Vermont scored the first seven points of the contest, but Virginia came back with a 14-0 run to that included eight points by Diakite. The Cavaliers held the Catamounts scoreless for over eight minutes. Virginia took a 24-18 lead into the half. Vermont went on a 10-2 run to open the second half. UVA took the lead back after a three by Clark and Diakite dunk. Lamb hit five consecutive 3-pointers for the Catamounts as the teams traded points. UVA was down 49-48 with 5:25 to go, when the Cavaliers scored nine-straight to lead 57-49 with 1:56 remaining.
 
GAME BALL GOES TO
Mamadi Diakite was 3-for-3 from three-point range to match a career-high with 19 points. He added six rebounds and a steal.
 
NOTES
• UVA had a season-high eight 3-pointers
• UVA outrebounded its fourth straight opponent (30-29)
• Diakite tied a career-high in points (19) and made a career-best three 3-pointers
• Clark had a career-high 15 points 
Braxton Key matched his UVA high with 14 points and dished out a UVA-best four assists xx assists
