Bell Collects Scholar All-Region Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia men’s soccer junior Joe Bell (Wanaka, New Zealand) was listed on United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region first team as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon (Dec. 16).
Bell will be eligible for Scholar All-America honors that are scheduled to be announced on Wednesday (Dec. 18).
To be eligible, student-athletes must be a junior or above at their institution in academic standing. They must also have started more than 50 percent of all games played and been a significant contributor to their team. Student-athletes must also have a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for their career.
Bell is a third-year psychology major and a two-time member of the ACC All-Academic Team. Earlier this Fall he was also included on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
On the pitch, Bell is a First Team All-American and one of three finalists for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy, annually bestowed on college soccer’s best player. Bell was the ACC’s Midfielder of the Year and was second on the team with seven goals and also contributed four assists. He co-captained a Virginia team that was the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament before reaching the College Cup final where he was named to the College Cup All-Tournament team.
