CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –Virginia men’s tennis team junior Carl Soderlund (Stockholm, Sweden) has been named the ACC Men’s Tennis Co-Singles Player of the Week in honors announced Tuesday (March 19) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Söderlund toppled 2018 NCAA Singles Champion Petros Chrysochos in straight sets in Sunday’s match at No. 2 Wake Forest. Söderlund, who is currently ranked No. 15 in singles, downed Chrysochos, who is currently ranked No. 2, 6-4, 7-5, on court two. It was the highest-ranked opponent that Söderlund has defeated in his career. He also picked up a win over Alan Rubio in UVA’s 4-1 win at UCF on Tuesday.

Söderlund, along with Bar Botzer of Wake Forest, were named the co-players of the week. Franco Aubone and Francisco Bastias of Miami were voted as the doubles team of the week.

This is Söderlund’s second time earning the conference’s weekly honor for singles this year. He was voted the doubles player of the week once last year. This is the third time this season that a Cavalier has been named the ACC Singles Player of the Week as freshman Brandon Nakashima (San Diego, Calif.) earned the accolade last month.
