ITA Hall of Fame Members | ITA Release

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Former Virginia men’s tennis team standout Somdev Devvarman will be inducted into the ITA Men’s Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame as a member of the six-person 2019 induction class, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Friday (March 29).

Devvarman, the 2007 and 2008 NCAA singles champion, played for Virginia from 2005 through 2008. He was the 13th player in the 124-year history of the tournament to win consecutive titles, and just the fourth to do so in the past 50 years, with an unprecedented 44–1 record in 2008. In his 2007 title run, he defeated top-seed John Isner in the final. Devvarman was also the ITA Indoor singles and doubles champion in 2007, the ITA All-American doubles champion in 2007 and the NCAA singles runner-up in 2006. After turning professional, Devvarman earned more than $1 million in prize money and reached the second round in all four Grand Slams, reaching a career-high No. 62 ranking in the world. He also competed for his native India in the 2012 Olympics.

Coaches Dave Fish and Greg Patton, and players Roy Barth, Sargis Sargsian, and Doug Verdieck will also be inducted into the hall of fame this year. Devvarman is the first Virginia player to earn the honor.
