BOSTON –  The No. 10 Virginia women’s squash team (8-5) suffered a 9-0 loss to No. 1 Harvard (8-0) on Friday (Jan. 31) at the Murr Center Squash Courts.
 
Freshmen Sydney Maxwell (Toronto, Ontario) and Julia Curran (Bronxville, N.Y.) led the Cavaliers during the match. Maxwell forced an extra game against Amina Yousry in position four. After dropping the first game 11-4, Maxwell rallied for a 13-11 win in game two. She fell in her final two games 11-3, 11-6.
 
Curran forced her first game into an extra point, battling Madeleine Chai in a 12-10, 11-6, 11-2 position six loss.
 
The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow, facing No. 15 Middlebury (5-5) at 11 a.m. and No. 12 Williams (12-3) at 6 p.m. at Harvard’s Murr Center Squash Courts.
 
Match Notes:

  • The meeting was the first between the two programs as the Cavaliers battled the 2019 national champions on their home court.
  • The match against the Crimson was the fifth consecutive top-20 matchup for the Cavaliers.
  • Virginia has faced four teams ranked in the top five this season.
