CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Virginia volleyball opens its 2020 season on Friday night (Sept. 18) as the Cavaliers host The Citadel in a 6 p.m. matchup inside Memorial Gymnasium.

Due to health and safety considerations in addition to the current guidelines established for sports venues by the Commonwealth of Virginia, attendance at UVA home competitions is limited to family of student-athletes and each team’s coaching staff until further notice. There is no public admission to these events and all tailgating in University parking lots is prohibited.

STORYLINES

Virginia and The Citadel meet for the first time on the volleyball court on Friday. The lone non-conference match of Virginia’s schedule sees the Cavaliers face their 206th opponent to open the 42nd season of Virginia volleyball

Virginia played a pair of SOCON opponents last season, sweeping both UNCG and Furman in Mem Gym

In 2019 the Cavaliers posted nine victories inside of Mem Gym, marking the most home wins since the 2015 season. Virginia is 304-207 all-time when playing at home

Virginia returns 74-percent of its offensive production from a season ago, 58-percent of its blocks and 69-percent of its digs
