UVA’s Comeback Falls Short at Boston College
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 18 Virginia (11-3, 3-1 ACC) dropped its first Atlantic Coast Conference contest of the season with a 60-53 loss at Boston College (9-6, 3-1 ACC) on Tuesday night at Conte Forum.
Virginia climbed back into the game after trailing by double-digits twice. The game was tied three times in the second half, but Boston College scored the final seven points of the game.
Three players scored in double-figures for the Cavaliers. Braxton Key (Charlotte, N.C.) had 16 points and eight rebounds. Kihei Clark (Woodland Hills, Calif.) had 12 points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line, and Kody Stattmann (Bentley, Queensland) had a career-high 11 points with seven boards.
Boston College shot 45 percent from the floor, while Virginia shot 33 percent. Virginia won the battle on the boards, 33-31. Jay Heath led Boston College with a game-high 17 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Virginia scored the first points of the game, Boston College went on an 18-6 run to lead 18-8 with 10:46 to play in the first half. Virginia fought its way back with a 7-0 run to cut it to 21-20 with 5:16 left in the half. BC kept the lead and took a 30-26 advantage into the half.
BC extended its lead back out to double-figures early in the second half. Virginia mounted a 15-3 run to tie the game 45-45 at the 7:09 mark in the second half. The Cavaliers then scored five consecutive points to lead 50-45. The Eagles went back ahead with an 8-3 run. The game was tied 53-53 with 1:38 remaining. Boston College’s Jared Hamilton hit a three-pointer with 38 seconds remaining to give BC the final lead.

Virginia returns home to host Syracuse on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
