CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams won three of four ACC weekly honors, the league office announced on Tuesday (Jan. 7).  Senior Sydney Dusel (Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore Walker Creedon (Cary, N.C.) swept the ACC Diver of the Week honors for their performance at the Tennessee Diving Invitational at the Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn., while freshman Kate Douglass (Pelham, N.Y.) was named the Women’s ACC Swimmer of the Week for her performance against Auburn at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center in Auburn, Ala.

Dusel led the women’s diving team at the Tennessee Diving Invitational, recording a score of 308.50 in the finals of the 1m dive and a score of 350.60 in the finals of 3m dive to place second in both events. She was also instrumental in the team’s win against the Tigers as the diving scores from the prelims at Tennessee Diving Invitational were added to the team’s dual meet against Auburn. Dusel won the 3m dive preliminary round with a score of 350.65 and placed second on the 1m board against the Tigers with her score of 293.25.

Creedon earned his first ACC weekly honor after winning the platform at the Tennessee Diving Invitational. The sophomore recorded a score of 332.80 to top the event by over 20 points. Additionally, he finished seventh overall in the finals of the 3m board with a score of 335.20. He placed fourth on the 3m board in the team’s dual meet against Auburn after recording a preliminary score of 311.15 in the event.

Douglass’s performance in the team’s win over No. 14 Auburn resulted in her third 2019-20 ACC Swimmer of the Week nod. Her weekend was highlighted by a UVA long-course record in the 50-meter freestyle (25.18) which resulted in one of three individual first-place finishes against the Tigers. Douglass also won the 100-yard individual medley (53.40) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.27). She also helped the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.90) and the 400-meter medley relay (4:08.86) to first-place finishes.

The Cavaliers will return to action on Jan. 18 to face Virginia Tech in a dual meet at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Christiansburg, Va.
