No. 4 Virginia Hosts Miami and Florida State
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 4 Virginia men’s tennis team (9-2, 3-0 ACC) begins a seven-match homestand by hosting Miami (3-3, 2-0 ACC) on Friday, March 5 at 2 p.m. at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. Virginia takes on Florida State (5-5, 0-2 ACC) on Monday, March 8 at 2:30 p.m.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS
- Virginia remains at No. 4 in this week’s ITA team rankings after beginning the season ranked No. 22. Individual singles and doubles rankings have not been updated since the preseason
- The Cavaliers are coming off a pair of 5-2 wins last weekend at No. 16 NC State and No. 13 Wake Forest
- Freshmen Jeffrey von der Schulenburg (Zurich, Switzerland) and Iñaki Montes (Pamplona, Spain) were named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week after picking up two wins during the weekend road trip. They have won their last five matches and lead the team with an 8-2 doubles record
- von der Schulenburg also leads the team in singles victories, posting a 10-1 record after rattling off seven-straight wins to start his rookie campaign
- Freshman Chris Rodesch (Angelsberg, Luxembourg) is 8-3 in singles this season
- Junior Ryan Goetz (Greenlawn, N.Y.) is a perfect 3-0 in singles in ACC play
- The Cavaliers are 9-2 this season at the No. 5 position
NOTING MIAMI
- Miami is ranked No. 39 in this week’s expanded ITA team rankings
- The Hurricanes are 2-0 in the ACC after a 6-1 win against Georgia Tech and a 4-3 victory against Clemson, but were edged 4-3 last weekend by Florida Gulf Coast
- Franco Aubone was named the UTR/ITA National Player of the Week after the victories against Georgia Tech and Clemson. The UTR/ITA Player of the Week honors a collegiate tennis player whose increase in UTR rating throughout the previous week was indicative of his/her high level of performance, including notable wins such as clinching matches and upsets
- Miami has two players with preseason singles rankings: Adria Soriano Barrera (34) and Stefan Milicevic (64)
- Virginia is 19-5 all-time against Miami. Virginia won the last meeting 4-0 in Coral Gables. The Hurricanes won 4-3 in 2018 in Charlottesville
NOTING FLORIDA STATE
- Florida State is receiving votes in this week’s ITA Team Rankings
- The Seminoles were edged 4-3 by both Clemson and Georgia Tech in the opening weekend of ACC play
- FSU had lost five-straight matches before sweeping a doubleheader against Tennessee Tech
- Loris Pourry is 7-3 this season, including a 6-2 record at No. 1 singles
- Sebastian Arcila and Alex Knaff are 4-0 at the No. 1 doubles court
- Knaff has a preseason singles ranking of No. 77
- Virginia is 30-11 all-time against the Seminoles, but the teams have split the last two meetings. Virginia won 4-1 in 2019 in Tallahassee while FSU, ranked No. 9 at the time, won 5-2 in 2018 in Charlottesville
ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES
- Due to health and safety considerations, in addition to the current guidelines for sports venues set by the Commonwealth of Virginia, attendance for UVA home men’s and women’s tennis competitions will be limited to the family of student-athletes and coaching staff until further notice
ON THE HORIZON
- The Cavaliers are beginning a lengthy homestand that runs through April 1. They will host Georgia Tech and Clemson next weekend
