Aly Hussein Wins the Odense Open to Qualify for the PSA World Championships

Aly Hussein defeated four seeded players, including the top seed, in the tournament in Denmark to punch his ticket

ODENSE, Denmark – Virginia men’s squash rising junior Aly Hussein (Cairo, Egypt)  completed a remarkable run of victories to take the men’s title at the 2021 Odense Open being held in Odense, Denmark.

With the victory, Hussein earns a spot in next month’s PSA World Championships, being held in Chicago beginning July 15.

Hussein, a 9-16 seed in the tournament, opened with an 11-6, 11-7, 12-10 victory against the 7-seed, Robert Downer of England. In a marathon 84-minute quarterfinal match-up, he edged top-seeded Ryosei Kobayashi of Japan 1-7, 11-3, 4-11, 1-11, 11-7. In the semis, he topped fellow Egyptian Mostafa El Sirty 8-11, 13-11, 11-6, 11-8 before taking down 6-seed Farkas Balasz 11-5, 11-8, 11-6 in the championship match.
