CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s tennis team has announced its 2021-22 schedule. The Cavaliers will host one tournament in the fall, the Orange and Blue Classic. In the spring, UVA hosts ITA Kickoff Weekend matches and nine duals at their home indoor and outdoor courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
After not playing in fall individual tournaments last season, the players will have an opportunity this year to play in a mixture of professional and collegiate tournaments including the Orange and Blue Classic, being hosted by UVA Sept. 24-26.
Dual match season opens on Sunday, Jan. 16 when the Cavaliers host VCU. UVA will take on a pair of Commonwealth opponents, Liberty and Richmond, in a doubleheader on Jan. 20. Virginia also hosts Harvard in non-conference action on Jan. 23.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will be hosting ITA Kickoff Weekend matches the weekend of Jan. 29. On the men’s side, Georgia Tech, Middle Tennessee and Ball State will all be vying for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships being held in Seattle Feb. 18-21.
The Cavaliers’ conference schedule includes home matches against Louisville (Mar. 11), Notre Dame (Mar. 13), Wake Forest (Mar. 25), NC State (Mar. 27) and Boston College (Apr. 17).
For the second-straight year, the ACC championships will be held at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Ga., from April 21-25. The Cavaliers have won 13 ACC championships and 14 regular-season titles, including the 2021 crowns.
The NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship will begin with regional action at sites the weekend of May 6-8. Super Regional play returns this season with the final 16 remaining teams will be held at eight sites on either May 13 or 14. The team finals, featuring eight teams, begin on May 19 in Champaign, Ill., with the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships taking place in after the conclusion of the team championship.
