CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s golf team opens its season this week at the Scenic City Collegiate in Ooltewah, Tenn. at the Honors Course. The 54-hole event takes place Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20-21. The field will play 36 holes Monday and a final round on Tuesday.

This year’s 15-team, 75-player field features host Chattanooga, UAB, Augusta, Clemson, East Tennessee State, Georgia, Kennesaw State, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, UNC Greensboro, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

The Cavaliers’ lineup for the opener includes sophomore George Duangmanee, sophomore Chris Fosdick, senior Sam Jung, sophomore Jaron Leasure and junior Pietro Bovari.

Bovari led UVA in stroke average last season at 72.43 for seven tournaments while Duangmanee was second at 72.92. This will be Jung’s first collegiate event since he placed 13th at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in 2020. Leasure, who is from Nashville, Tenn., will be making his collegiate debut after not playing last spring.

The Blazers of UAB won the 2020 Scenic City Invite at 14-over 878. Ben Carr of Georgia Southern took medalist honors at even par 216.
