CARY, N.C.. – Junior Natasha Subhash, sophomore Hibah Shaikh and freshmen Melodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky competed at the Woflpack Invitational Fall Ranked Spotlight tournament at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C.
The tournament includes two ranked players plus two additional from each team. Host NC State, UCF, Tennessee, Ohio State, South Carolina, Miami, Michigan, USC, Duke, Oklahoma, UNC, and Princeton all had players competing.
Both Collard and Chervinsky advanced to the Round of 16 of the A singles draw. Subhash also competed in the A singles draw while Shaikh played in the B draw.
THURSDAY – The tournament opened with two doubles matches for each player on Thursday night. Hibah Shaikh and Melodie Collard topped a Princeton tandem in their second match while Natasha Subhash and Elaine Chervinsky dropped both of their matches.
FRIDAY – Melodie Collard and Elaine Chervinsky both won their opening singles matches, with Chervinsky picking up her first win over a ranked opponent, topping No. 50 Megan Davies of South Carolina, and Collard downing No. 29 Ayana Akli of South Carolina. They lost their Round of 16 match-ups. All four players will be in back-draw matches for the remainder of the singles tournament. Hibah Shaikh began her backdraw by outdueling Elonara Molinaro of Tennessee 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
SATURDAY – Natasha Subhash picked up a pair of singles wins, topping Grace Piper of USC 7-5, 6-7, 10-6 and Megan Davies of South Carolina 6-4, 6-4. Elaine Chervinsky picked up the biggest win of the weekend for the Cavaliers, topping No. 16 Isabella Pfenning in straight sets.
SUNDAY – The Cavaliers closed out the weekend with dominant victories in unbracketed doubles matches. Shaikh and Collared teamed up for a 6-1 victory againt a team from Tennessee while Chervinsky and Subhash won 6-0 against a pair from Princeton.
