CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 14 Virginia field hockey team (7-5) travels to play at No. 18 Old Dominion (9-3) on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex in Norfolk, Va.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • Virginia finishes a stretch of seven straight games against ranked opponents with a Sunday game at No. 18 Old Dominion. UVA has played ODU twice in the midst of this stretch
  • Virginia’s last three games have been decided in overtime with a 2OT win against No. 20 Duke and two overtime losses against No. 8 Maryland and No. 14 Boston College
  • Virginia slid to No. 15 in this week’s NFHCA Coaches Poll, down from No. 12 last week
  • Amber Ezechiels leads the team in points (13) and goals (5). The defender also leads the team with 35 shots, 15 more than the next closest player
  • Greer Gill leads the team in assists (4)
  • Back Makayla Gallen has scored two goals this season, the game-winner at Ohio State and the game-tying goal against Duke
  • Nine different Cavaliers have scored goals this season. 15 players have contributed at least one goal or an assist
  • Laura Janssen scored her second goal of the season against Maryland

  • Sunday’s game will be the second time that UVA and ODU have faced off this season. The Monarchs won the first meeting in Charlottesville 2-1 (Oct. 26)
  • Virginia took a 1-0 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Monarchs scored two goals in a 1:43 span in the final period to pick up the 2-1 victory
  • Amber Ezechiels scored UVA’s goal while Illse Westera and Marlon De Bruijne scored for ODU
  • This is the lone game of the week for the Cavaliers who will play three times next week (Wednesday at home against William & Mary, Friday at Syracuse and Sunday at home against Drexel 

NOTING OLD DOMINION

  • ODU (9-3, 3-1 CAA) fell one place in this week’s NFHCA Coaches Poll to No. 18
  • Old Dominion has won five of its last six games, as well as nine of its last 11.
  • Marlon de Bruijne leads the team in scoring with 10 goals this year. She also leads the team in points (24). She is tied for the team lead in assists (4). She ranks third in the CAA in goals and points
  • ODU plays at Providence on Friday before returning home to host UVA on Sunday
  • Last season’s COVID-19 altered schedule was the first time since 1975 that the two teams did not play one another at least once during the season
  • ODU leads the all-time series 33-17 but Virginia has won four of the last six
