Virginia Inks Graduate Transfer Setter Gabby Easton
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball first-year head coach Shannon Wells announced the addition of graduate transfer setter Gabby Easton (Anderson, S.C./T.L. Hanna HS) to the Cavaliers’ signing class of 2022 on Wednesday. Easton is scheduled to join the UVA volleyball program in January after stops at Ole Miss (2020-21) and Clemson (2018-19).
“Gabby has all of the skills we look for in a setter,” said Wells. “She’s athletic, exhibits elite control of the ball and is a tremendous leader. At Ole Miss, she was able to come in under a new coaching staff and reinvent the offense by running tempo to the pins and was fearless in setting the middle from any area on the court. Gabby is an all-around great volleyball player, and we look forward to her joining our program as she will play a big role in transforming Virginia Volleyball into an elite program.”
Easton appeared in 19 matches, including 17 starts, last season with the Rebels. At Ole Miss, she averaged a team-best 8.91 assists per set and 1.73 digs per set. Easton posted a season-high 57 assists in the Rebels’ second match of the season against Alabama (Feb. 6), a mark that tied for fourth in Ole Miss history under the rally-scoring era. She recorded at least 40 assists in six matches last season and posted three double-doubles. Easton notched a career-best six service aces at Georgia (March 23), the most by any Ole Miss player last season. She was also named to the SEC’s First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
At Clemson, Easton had one of the best freshman seasons by setter in program history. In 2018, she was named an ACC All-Freshman Team selection after finishing second in the conference in both assists (1,397) and assists per set (10.83). Her 1,397 assists are still good for second all-time in Clemson history in a freshman season. The Anderson, South Carolina native also garnered back-to-back ACC Freshman-of-the-Week honors (Oct. 22 & 20) in 2018. As a true freshman, Easton tallied a career-high 60 assists in the Tigers’ five-set win over Appalachian State (Sept. 1) at the Mountaineers’ Appalachian Invitational, where she was named an all-tournament selection. She also recorded 51 assists in Clemson’s sweep over Davidson (Sept. 1), which tied for second-most by any Division-I player in a three-set match in 2018.
Easton played for T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, South Carolina, where she was coached by her mother, Becky, who played volleyball Clemson (1993). Her father, Lance, also attended Clemson and played football (1990-92). Her sister, Bella, is currently in her first year as a setter at William & Mary and her brother, Christian, played soccer at Limestone College.
Easton earned her Bachelor of Multi-Disciplinary Studies (B.M.D.S.) degree at Ole Miss in 2021.
