Virginia Hosts Clemson on Sunday

Virginia hosts Clemson at 4 p.m. on Sunday while celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team (3-16, 0-9 ACC) hosts Clemson (7-15, 1-10 ACC) on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 4 p.m.. at John Paul Jones Arena.

BROADCAST INFORMATION

  • The game will be televised on the ACC Network and streamed online through ACCNX. ACCNX streams are available through participating TV providers that carry ACC Network and can be watched on the ESPN app and through WatchESPN
  • All of the 2021-22 Virginia women’s basketball games are available locally on the radio on NewsRadio 1070 AM and 98.9 FM WINA

COVID 19 & CLEAR BAG POLICIES

  • In accordance with UVA Policy, all attendees 12 years of age and older are required to provide proof of vaccination or of a negative COVID-19 test result for entry into John Paul Jones Arena on event days. NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • Sunday’s game is UVA’s annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration. This year’s theme is “Breaking Barriers: Celebrating 50 Years of Title IX”. Women’s basketball alumna Sharlene Brightly will be honored in a halftime ceremony
  • With two rescheduled games coming up (Tuesday, Feb. 8 vs. Syracuse and Tuesday, Feb. 15 vs. Miami), Sunday’s game is the first in a series of six games in 12 days for the Cavaliers
  • Virginia scored 57 points on Thursday at Boston College, their highest offensive output since scoring 62 points in the victory at George Washington
  • The Cavaliers had a 12-point lead in the second quarter and led by nine at the half, but struggled in the third quarter, enabling the BC comeback
  • Sophomore guard Kaydan Lawson scored a career-high 14 points against Boston College, all in the first half. Lawson’s previous career-high was 12 last season against James Madison. It was Lawson’s second double-digit scoring effort in the last four games
  • UConn transfer sophomore forward/guard Mir McLean was granted a waiver by the NCAA granting her immediate eligibility at UVA the afternoon of the Virginia Tech game. She made her debut that night against scoring 11 points with a team-high nine rebounds.
  • McLean led the team in rebounding again at Boston College, grabbing 10, seven of which she had in the first half
  • In her three games in a UVA uniform, she is averaging 8.7 points and 7.7 rebounds
  • McLean played a total of eight minutes for the Huskies this season. She appeared in 24 games last season, averaging 2.8 points per game
  • Grad student guard McKenna Dale had her best performance of the season at BC, going 3-of-3 from the three-point line for nine points. Her previous high was a seven-point game at Duke. Dale averaged 13.4 points per game her last season at Brown

SCOUTING CLEMSON

  • Clemson is coming off a 93-71 loss at No. 4 Louisville on Thursday night
  • The Tigers are 7-15 overall and 1-10 in the ACC. Their lone conference win was a decisive 66-44 game at Wake Forest
  • The Tigers lost in overtime against Pitt, 78-73, on Jan. 27
  • Clemson is ranked fifth in the ACC with 9.6 steals per game
  • Delicia Washington is seventh in the ACC in scoring at 15.1 points per game and ninth in rebounding at 7.0. She also leads the team in steals at 1.9 per game
  • Virginia leads the all-time series 45-32
  • UVA has won six of the last eight meetings
  • Clemson won the last match-up, 71-55, one of the five games that Virginia played last season

ON THE HORIZON

  • Virginia hosts Syracuse (9-11, 2-8 ACC) on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. in a game that was originally scheduled to be played on January 16 but was postponed because of a snowstorm in Charlottesville
