CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Owayne Owens of Virginia’s men’s track and field program picked up his second weekly honor of the season as he was named ACC Men’s Co-Field Performer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, Feb. 8.

At the Doc Hale VT Elite meet Owens leaped to a 16.43m (53’11”) mark to win the event. The mark increases Owen’s lead at the top of the ACC in the triple jump and ranks second only to TCU’s Chengetayi Mapaya (16.80m / 55’1.5”) on the national level.

Owen’s shares the honor with Miami’s Isaiah Holmes who placed among the nation’s top seven in two events at the Meyo Invitational, setting a school record in the high jump (2.19m / 7’2.25”) and tying the school record in the long jump (7.90m / 25’11”).

His last time out, Owens claimed the weekly award with his first attempt at the triple jump this season setting a mark of 16.23m (53’3”). The Jamaican has competed twice this season and earned ACC honors after both performances.

In the Virginia record books Owens ranks third on the all-time indoor performance list in the triple jump. He achieved the status after a sixth-place performance at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships where he posted his personal best mark of 16.53m (54’2.75”).
