Cavaliers Fall to Trinity in Howe Cup Opener
BOSTON, Mass. – The No. 7 Virginia women’s squash team (13-5) fell to No. 2 Trinity (14-1) by a score of 8-1 in the team’s first ever Howe Cup appearance in Boston, Mass. on Friday afternoon.
Sydney Maxwell registered the first points of the match with a clean sweep of Trinity’s Nanna Carleke (11-8, 12-10, 11-4) as the Wahoos took an early 1-0 lead.
Trinity bounced back quickly and responded with eight consecutive wins to win the match 8-1. The bottom three matches on the ladder each came down to the final game as Mandy Haywood, Caroline Baldwin, and Erin O’Connor all fell just short of picking up points for the Cavaliers in five-game matches.
