Danielle Husar Competing at FIH Junior Women's World Cup
POTCHEFSTROOM, South Africa – Virginia field hockey junior Danielle Husar (Mississauga, Canada) will be competing at the FIH Junior World Cup, being held April 1-12 in Potchefstroom, South Africa, approximately 75 miles west-southwest of Johannesburg.
Husar is a striker/midfielder on Team Canada. The squad sits in Pool A with the Netherlands, the United States and Zimbabwe.
Team Canada earned its berth in the championship by placing first at the 2021 Junior Pan American Championships in Santiago, Chile, in August 2021. The gold medal was the first in program history and first Canadian women’s Pan American gold registered at any outdoor level. Nine members of that team, including Husar, will be playing in the Junior World Cup.
The Junior World Cup was originally scheduled for December 2021 but was canceled due to the global emergency response to the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
Canada opens play on Friday, April 1 by taking on Zimbabwe.
