Congratulations to the UVA Squash Class of 2022

We send all of our best wishes and happy returns to our five graduating players: Caroline Baldwin, Mandy Haywood, Will Holey, Emma Jinks, and Sydney Maxwell. Jinks and Maxwell are expected to return to the squad as graduate students for the 2022-2023 season. Take a look back at their career accomplishments.

Caroline Baldwin was a four-year UVA Athletics letter winner, competing for the women’s squash team from 2018-2022. As a fourth year and team co-captain she helped lead the team to a record-high finish of #7 in the nation and the program’s first appearance in the Howe Cup division at CSA Team Nationals. She was also a member of the 2020 team, which won the Kurtz Cup Championship. Individually, Caroline compiled a win-loss record of 38-17 in official CSA matches. Her honors include two CSA Scholar Athlete Awards (2020-2022) and several appearances on the ACC Academic Honor Roll (2018-2022). Caroline graduated from UVA in May of 2022 with a BA in Economics and a minor in Innovation in Business Entrepreneurship; she will be joining JP Morgan in the wealth management division later this summer.

Mandy Haywood was a four-year UVA Athletics letter winner, competing for the women‘s squash team from 2018-2022. During her tenure she helped lead the program to its first appearance in the Howe Cup division and a record-high finish of #7 in the nation (2022), as well as a Kurtz Cup Championship (2020). Individually, Mandy compiled a record of 32-24 in official CSA matches and earned All-MASC honors (2020). Her academic accolades include multiple appearances on the Dean’s List and the ACC Honor Roll (2018-2022), as well as two CSA Scholar Athlete Awards (2021, 2022). Mandy graduated from UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce in May of 2022, taking a BS in commerce with concentrations in finance and accounting and will be joining UBS as a financial analyst in the summer of 2022.

Will Holey was a four-year UVA Athletics letter winner, competing for the men’s squash team from 2018-2022. Will was a team co-captain in his final season and he helped lead the team to back-to-back appearances in the A Division at Team Nationals (2020 & 2022), a program-high finish of #5 in the nation (2020), and three consecutive conference championships (2019-2022). Individually, he compiled a win-loss record of 27-32 in official CSA matches. His honors include four appearances on the UVA Athletics Honor Roll (2018-2022) and the UVA Squash Coaches’ Award for Excellence. Will graduated in May of 2022, taking a BA in economics and a minor in leadership from the McIntire School of Commerce; he will be joining Rothschild & Co later this summer as a banking analyst. 

 

Emma Jinks was a four-year UVA Athletics letter winner, competing for the women’s squash team from 2018-2022. As a fourth year and team co-captain she helped lead the team to a record-high finish of #7 in the nation and the program’s first appearance in the Howe Cup division at CSA Team Nationals. She was also a member of the 2020 team, which won the Kurtz Cup Championship. Individually, Emma compiled a record of 38-21 and was a finalist for  the 2022 Betty Richey Award, which recognizes the CSA’s female athlete of the year; she also earned All-American (2020) and All-MASC (2020, 2022) honors. Her academic awards include a CSA Scholar Athlete Award (2022) and multiple appearances on the UVA Athletics Honor Roll. Emma graduated from UVA in May of 2022, taking a BA in Sociology while completing the University’s pre-med course of studies.

Sydney Maxwell was a three-year UVA Athletics letter winner, competing for the women’s squash team from 2019-2022. During her tenure she helped lead the program to its first appearance in the Howe Cup division and a record-high finish of #7 in the nation (2022), as well as a Kurtz Cup Championship (2020). Individually, Sydney compiled a record of 22-15 in official CSA matches. Her honors include a Rookie of the Year Award (2020), two All-MASC selections (2020, 2022),  a CSA Scholar Athlete Award (2022), and two appearances on the ACC Academic Honor Roll (2020-2022). Sydney graduated from UVA in May of 2022, taking a BA in cognitive science with a minor in psychology.
