Nine Cavaliers to Compete at World Rowing U23 and U19 Championships
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Nine University of Virginia rowers will compete at the 2022 World Rowing Under-23 and Under-19 Championships in late July on Lago di Varese in Varese, Italy.
Current Cavalier rowers Lauren Benedict (women’s quad, United States), Kate Kelly (women’s four, United States), Izzie Begley (women’s single sculls, United States), Leia Till (women’s pair, Canada) will represent UVA and their respective countries at the World Rowing U23 Championships from July 25-30. In addition, Helene Dimitrijev (women’s quad, Estonia) qualified, but will not compete in the event due to COVID issues within the Estonia squad.
Incoming UVA rowers Cillian Mullen (women’s quad, United States), Elsa Hartman (women’s four, United States), Sarah Bradford (women’s eight, United States) and Riley Richardson (women’s four, Canada) will represent UVA and their respective countries at the World Rowing U19 Championships from July 27-31.
Virginia head coach Kevin Sauer will serve as the head coach of the women’s eight at the U23 championships, while UVA Boatman Emeritus Roger Payne will coach Begley in the women’s single sculls.
