Montes Downs No. 1 Dostanic at Southern Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ga. –  Members of the Virginia men’s tennis team are competing as individuals at the Southern Intercollegiate, being held Sept. 16-18 in Athens, Ga.

Junior Iñaki Montes, ranked No. 4 in the preseason ITA singles rankings, faced No. 1 Stefan Dostanic of USC in his first match of the fall season. Montes dropped the first set 6-3, but rallied for a 7-5 win in the second. Dostanic retired trailing 3-0 in the second set to give Montes the victory.

Juniors Jeffrey von der Schulenburg and Alexander Kiefer and grad student Ryan Goetz also picked up wins against ranked Trojan players.
