Virginia Picks Up Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Honors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia field hockey goalkeeper Jet Trimborn and midfielder Daniela Mendez-Trendler have been named the ACC Offensive and Defensive Co-Players of the Week in honors announced Tuesday (Oct. 4) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
North Carolina forward Erin Matson shared the offensive honor while Wake Forest goalkeeper Ellie Todd was also lauded on the defensive side.
Virginia’s Mendez-Trendler scored both goals in the No. 7 Cavaliers’ 2-0 win over No. 5 Louisville in last Friday’s ACC top-10 showdown and then followed with the first goal in a late fourth-quarter flurry that carried the Cavaliers to a 3-0 win over No. 19 William & Mary.
Trimborn made four saves in the win over Louisville. The Bossum, Netherlands native has now played more than 204 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, including posting three-straight shutout victories.
This is Trimborn’s second straight ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor and the first for Mendez-Trendler.
