Cleary’s 70 Leads Hoos During Second Round at Stanford
STANFORD, Calif. – Junior Jennifer Cleary posted a score of 1-under 70 for the second consecutive day to lead the Virginia women’s golf team at the Stanford Intercollegiate. Cleary finished the second round of play in seventh place at 2-under 140 at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course.
No. 9 Virginia enters Sunday’s final round tied with Texas for fourth place at 1-over 569. The Cavaliers posted a second-round result of 3-over 287. Top-ranked Stanford leads the field at 11-under 557.
UVA’s Megan Propeck turned in a score of even par 71 and is in 22nd place at 1-over 143 while Amanda Sambach is two shots behind her on the leaderboard in 36th place at 145 after shooting 1-over 72. Celeste Valinho is tied with Sambach at 145 after shooting 74 Saturday. Riley Smyth, who led UVA with an opening-round score of 69, shot 81 and dropped back to 71st place at 150.
Freshman Maline Krause, competing in her first collegiate event as an individual, shot 78 on Saturday and is in 89th place.
