GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 1 Virginia women’s swimming & diving team won both relay events and set an American, NCAA and US Open record in the 200-yard medley relay on Tuesday night at the 2023 ACC Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
UVA’s relay team of sophomore Gretchen Walsh, junior Alex Walsh, senior Lexi Cuomo and senior Kate Douglass, respectively, opened the night with their record-setting time of 1:31.73 to win the ACC title in the event.
The Cavaliers also won the 800-yard freestyle relay, extending their streak of ACC Championships in the event to 16-straight. Sophomore Reilly Tiltmann, freshman Aimee Canny, freshman Claire Tuggle and senior Ella Nelson, respectively, finished first with a time of 6:55.25.
- Senior Jenn Bell finished just off the podium in the women’s 3-meter diving event. Bell placed fourth overall with a score of 330.45.
- The Cavaliers previously set the American, NCAA and US Open record in the 200-yard medley relay at the 2022 ACC Championships.
- Virginia finished runner-up in the men’s 200-yard medley relay. Junior Matt Brownstead, junior Noah Nichols, senior Max Edwards and senior August Lamb, respectively, finished second with a time of 1:23.03.
- in the 800-yard freestyle relay, sophomore Jack Aikins, sophomore Tim Connery, freshman Sebastien Sergile and senior Jack Wright, respectively, finished sixth with a time of 6:16.62.
Individual swimming events begin on Wednesday (Feb. 15) with the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free, as well as women’s 1-meter diving.
