Virginia Opens Conference Play This Weekend

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The No. 21 Virginia men’s tennis team (8-4, 0-0 ACC) opens conference play this weekend with a pair of home matches. The Cavaliers host Miami (6-2, 0-0 ACC) on Friday at 3 p.m. and No. 15 Florida State (7-3, 0-0 ACC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

MATCH INFORMATION

• Friday’s match is expected to be played on the indoor courts and Sunday is projected to be an outdoor match. Please monitor the Virginia Men’s Tennis social media accounts for venue changes

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

• With the switch from voted rankings to computerized rankings, the Cavaliers have dipped to No. 21 in the ITA team rankings
• The Cavaliers are coming off their post-ITA Indoors bye week
• Jeffrey von der Schulenburg has the highest singles ranking for the Cavaliers at No. 25. Chris Rodesch is No. 36 and Iñaki Montes is 43
• UVA is a combined 8-2 at the top line this season and 8-2 at the No. 4 position
• Rodesch is 4-0 at No. 1 singles
• Ryan Goetz is 6-1 at No. 4
• Goetz and von der Schulenburg are 8-2 in singles in dual matches this year

NOTING MIAMI/FLORIDA STATE

• Miami is ranked No. 47 in the ITA computerized team rankings
• Virginia leads the all-time series 21-5 and has won the last three meetings
• Florida State has a 5-2 victory against then No. 7 Georgia but has lost 5-2 against No. 12 Baylor, 4-2 against No. 16 Florida and 4-3 against No. 24 Mississippi State
• The loss against Baylor was in the final of ITA Kickoff Weekend
• Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc is ranked No. 2 in singles. He is 21-3 singles with an 8-0 mark at No. 1. He was a semifinalist at the ITA Fall National Championships in November
• Virginia leads the all-time series 32-11 and has won the last four meetings
