CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Fifteen members of the Virginia wrestling program head west to compete at the 2023 US Open Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada. Eight Cavaliers, present and former, will be competing in the senior division, while eight Cavaliers will be competing in the U20 division.

The event runs April 27-30 at the South Point Hotel & Casino and is a qualifying event in the selection process for the team that will represent the United States in the upcoming 2023 World Championships. The Senior division will compete April 27-28, while the U20 division will compete April 29-30.

Competing at the senior level will be Jarod Verkleeren (70kg), Hadyn Danals (86kg), Vic Marcelli (86kg), Hudson Stewart (86kg), Michael Battista (92kg) and Krystian Kinsey (92kg). Also competing will be assistant coach Jack Mueller (65kg).

At the U20 level, representing the Hoos will be Kyren Butler (65kg), Jack Gioffre (65kg), Michael Gioffre (70kg), Nick Sanko (70kg), Mason Stefanelli (70kg), Nick Hamilton (74kg), Griffin Gammell (92kg) and Colden Dorfman (97kg).

Also competing in the event is for US World Team member and Virginia alum Jay Aiello (92kg).
