CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Infielder Jade Hylton on the Virginia softball team has been named to the TUCCI/NFCA D1 National Freshman of the Year Top 25 list it was announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Friday (April 28).

The national Freshman of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, May 30, prior to the start of the 2023 Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

Hylton is one of five freshmen from the ACC which led the nation, while the SEC and PAC12 each had four players on the list.

She currently leads the Cavaliers offensively, pacing the squad in batting average (.321), RBI (25), hits (50) and stolen bases (21) at the top of the lineup. She is tied for the team lead in home runs (10) and leads the squad in extra-base hits (21) with seven doubles, four triples and the 10 home runs. Hylton also leads the squad with 13 multiple-hit games – including eight games with two hits and five games with three hits.

Hylton entered the week tied for fourth among power five freshmen in home runs.

The Cavaliers close the conference slate today with a doubleheader at Syracuse to kick off a three-game series. First pitch in Friday’s doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at Skytop Softball Stadium.
