CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Graduate student Brian Edgington was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday (May 15). Edgington is the first Cavalier pitcher to earn the weekly honor this season.

The righthander turned in six scoreless innings and fanned eight batters to help UVA complete a series sweep of Louisville on Sunday. Edgington surrendered just two hits and allowed only one runner to reach second base. Beginning with the last out of the first inning, he retired 13-straight batters before giving up his only extra base hit of the afternoon, a leadoff double in the sixth. Edgington improved to 7-3 on the season and now tied for the staff lead with five quality starts.

For the season, Edgington sports a 3.33 ERA, the 10th lowest in the ACC. He ranks in the top-10 in the league in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.06 – 9th), wins (7 – 4th), WHIP (1.17 – 8th), walks allowed per nine innings (2.39 – 9th). His 259 career strikeouts are the second most of any active ACC pitcher.
