TUCSON, Ariz. – Virginia discus thrower Ashley Anumba put forward an impressive performance at the Tucson Elite Classsic at Roy P. Drachman Stadium Friday (May 19) as she set the school record in the event for the sixth time in two years.

Fresh off of a second-place finish at the ACC Championships, Anumba recorded the victory with one impressive throw. After a pair of attempts that fell short, Anumba unleashed a bomb that sailed 60.97 meters (200’0″) to win the competition by over a meter.

  • Anumba’s mark is a personal-best and breaks her own Virginia women’s discus record
  • The performance marks the sixth time Anumba has set the record since her arrival at UVA for the 2022 season
  • Anumba is one of just six NCAA Division I throwers to break 60 meters this season and one of four to throw at least 200 feet
  • The mark best’s Anumba’s most recent record of 59.37 meters (194’9″) which she set at Raleigh Relays this season (3/24)

Anumba’s next competition will be at the NCAA East Regional Preliminaries (May 24-27) where she will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships. She is seeded fourth with her mark of 59.37 meters (194’9″).
