CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced today (June 6) the recipients of the 2023 Division I Women’s Regional Awards. Every year the ITA recognizes coaches and players for their excellence on the court and in their communities throughout the season.

Julia Adams was voted the ITA Atlantic Region Senior Player of the Year while Natasha Subhash was named the region’s Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award winner.

Adams opened the year by winning the ITA Atlantic Regional Singles Championship in the fall. She has earned invitations to compete in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships for the second straight spring, advancing to the semifinals of the doubles championship to earn All-America honors and a No. 6 national ranking. She finished her career with a combined record of 88-42 in singles and 103-26 in doubles between her four seasons at Furman this year at UVA.

She is the fourth Cavalier to earn this honor joining Emily Fraser (2012), Danielle Collins (2016) and Meghan Kelley (2019).

Subhash, a two-time Academic All-American and three-time ITA All-American, reached 20 wins in singles for the third time in her career and earned her third straight invitation to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship as well as hitting a top-10 ranking in doubles this season. She earned her bachelor’s degree last month from the McIntire School of Commerce, earning the 2023 Walter B. Doggett Accounting Award in recognition of distinguished academic achievement and outstanding scholarship in the discipline of accounting. She will pursue her master’s in accounting in the fall. She has twice been named UVA’s female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was the 2022 recipient of the Ralph Sampson Scholarship Award, an honor given annually to UVA’s top third-year student-athlete who best demonstrates excellence in academics, leadership and athletics. The two-time team captain has been working with Madison House’s Athletes Committed to Education (ACE) program since 2019, volunteering as a tutor working with elementary school students.

She is the second Cavalier to earn this honor, joining Rosie Johanson (2021).

The national award winners selected from the pool of 12 regional winners for each honor will be announced next Monday, June 12.
