CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Mike Roberts, associate head coach and pitching coach with the Virginia softball program, has been tabbed by USA Softball as one of six coaches at the U.S. Women’s Fastpitch camp this week (June 13-15) in Vero Beach, Fla.

The camp will be held at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex and will and will serve as preparation for selecting U.S. Women’s National Team rosters to compete in future events slated throughout the 2023 season. Athletes who accepted an invitation to attend the camp will participate in a series of position drills and simulated games while gaining exposure to the USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC).

“It’s a real honor to be involved with USA Softball and interact with some of the best coaches and players in the country,” Roberts said of his selection to work with the national camp.

The camp will feature a 28-player invite list of current and former student athletes representing 19 NCAA Division I universities from seven athletic conferences: American Athletic Conference (1), Atlantic Coast Conference (5), Big 12 (7), Big Ten (1), Conference-USA (1), Pac-12 (6) and SEC (7). The list of attendees accepted an invitation based on availability and is subject to change due to schedule changes and updated athlete availability.

Athletes attending the camp will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the USA Softball WNTSC, which will be tasked with selecting two 2023 U.S. Women’s National Team rosters – one to compete at the Japan All-Star Series in August and one to head to Santiago, Chile for the Pan American Games in November. The Japan All-Star Series will feature a full roster of current college athletes while the Pan American Games roster will showcase athletes from the collegiate and professional levels.
