BERGAMO, Italy – Virginia men’s tennis rising senior Iñaki Montes (Pamplona, Spain) won the singles titles on Sunday (July 2) at the ITF World Tennis Tour 15k clay court tournament in Bergamo, Italy.

This is the second career ITF WTT singles title for Montes who won a 25K in Mungia, Spain last year. This is his second-straight week winning an ITF WTT title after taking the doubles crown last week (June 23) in Mungia.

Montes opened the tournament with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win against wildcard Filiberto Fumagalli. He pulled out a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (1) victory against Alexandr Binda bin the Round of 16. His quarterfinal match against Nicolas Parizzia was halted early in the first set on Friday evening, to be resumed on Saturday morning with Montes winning 6-2, 6-3. In his second match of the day, Montes took down Italian Federico Iannaccone 6-4, 6-4 to book his trip to the finals. He battled Mariano Kestelboim of Argentina 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 to take the title.

Montes has six career ITF WTT titles, two singles and four doubles.

Montes was also playing in doubles, but withdrew in the quarterfinals.
