This is his third-straight week winning an ITF WTT title after taking the doubles crown two weeks ago (June 23) in Mungia, Spain and the singles title last week in Bergamo, Italy.
Montes rode a nine-match win streak into Sunday’s singles final before being edged 7-6 (2), 6-4 in the final by the tournament’s top seed, fellow Spaniard Javier Barrano Cosano, who ranks No. 336 in the world. Montes’ run included a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Gerard Planelles Ripoll in the Round of 16. He downed Imanol Lopez Morillo 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.
Montes partnered with Alex Martinez in doubles. Martinez, who has played the last four years for Oklahoma, and Montes topped Dimitris and Stefanos Sakellardis 7-6 (1), 6-2 in the final.
Montes has seven career ITF WTT titles, two singles and five doubles.
