LAKE ELMO, Minn. – The No. 25 Virginia women’s golf team is tied for seventh place after the opening 18 holes of play at the ninth annual ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Lake Elmo, Minn. UVA shot 1-under 287 to be tied with Florida State on the leaderboard. South Carolina holds the lead after the opening round at 15-under 273.

The Cavaliers were led by junior Amanda Sambach who shot 2-under 70. She is tied for 12th place after the opening round. Sambach won the event last year.

UVA graduate student Celeste Valinho is 19th at 1-under 71 while first-year Jaclyn LaHa shot even par 72 during her collegiate debut that included an eagle on her second hole. Senior Rebecca Skoler is in 43rd place at 74 and junior Megan Propeck is 53rd at 76.

The second round of the event gets underway Tuesday. UVA will be paired with Florida State and Texas and tee off starting at 9:35 a.m. CT from the 10th tee.
