Red Hot Hoos Grab Lead at Highlands Invitational
WESTCHESTER, Ill. – The No. 16 Virginia men’s golf team posted rounds of 13-under 275 and 14-under 274 to grab the lead at the Highland Invitational after the opening 36 holes of play. UVA’s two-round score of 27-under 549 is six strokes ahead of host school Wake Forest. All five Cavaliers finished the first day of play under par.
The second round was not completed due to darkness.
The Cavaliers were led by the sophomore duo of Bryan Lee and Ben James. Lee posted rounds of 68 and 67 for a two-round total of 9-under 135 to stand alone in second place among players who completed their rounds.
James shot 71 and 65 and is tied for third at 8-under 136. Both players had a total of 13 birdies during their rounds. James, who stood at 4-over after his opening nine holes, reeled off 10 birdies over a 17-hole stretch between his two rounds. Both players also recorded eagles during their second rounds.
James was back in the UVA lineup after missing the season-opening Texas Valero Collegiate after helping Team USA to victory at the Walker Cup in early September.
