UVA In Fourth Place When Play Suspended at Glass City Invitational
TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 21 Virginia women’s golf team was in fourth place during the second round when play was suspended at the Glass City Invitational due to darkness. The 10-team event is being contested at Inverness Course in Toledo, Ohio.
UVA opened the tournament by shooting 11-over 299 in misty conditions during Monday’s opening round. Florida posted the best first round score shooting 289 while South Florida was one shot better than UVA at 298.
The Cavaliers’ team score was at 13-over par when play was suspended.
Amanda Sambach had UVA’s best first-round score shooting even par 72 to stand fifth after the first 18 holes. Sambach had completed 15 holes and stood at 2-under when she stopped her second round. She was in second place on the leaderboard, one stroke behind Michigan State’s Brooke Biermann.
After the first round, Megan Propeck was one shot behind Sambach in eighth place. First-year Jaclyn LaHa shot 74 and was 16th while Celeste Valinho was 44th after shooting 80. Rebecca Skoler was in 59th place with a score of 85. Freshman Kiera Bartholomew, playing in her first collegiate event, shot 77. She is competing as an individual and was in 27th place.
The second round will conclude Tuesday morning following by the final round of competition. Teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
