CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday (Oct. 3) that Virginia’s transfer goalkeeper Joey Batrouni has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week following back-to-back clean sheet performances in a pair of wins for the Cavaliers.

Following an injury to Holden Brown who had started the previous six matches between the posts, Batrouni’s number was called to make his second and third starts for Virginia against ETSU (Sept. 26) and No. 8 Louisville (Sept. 29).

Batrouni kept an important clean sheet against ETSU as Virginia took the victory by a score of 1-0. Just three days later, the junior would be tested against No. 8 Louisville. Batrouni passed the test keeping his second consecutive clean sheet while making six saves over the course of the match. The most impressive of which came with just over half an hour to play in the match when Louisville nearly cut a two-goal deficit in half. Instead, Batrouni made the save and the Cavaliers went on to seal a 3-0 victory.
