EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – Despite placing all five players inside the top-20 of the final individual standings, the No. 15 Virginia men’s golf team could not make a move up the leaderboard during the final round of the Hamptons Intercollegiate and placed fourth. The Cavaliers won or shared the title the past two seasons.

UVA shot 5-over 293 during the final round for a 54-hole total of 10-under 854. Alabama captured the team title at 24-under 840.

UVA was led by Deven Patel’s seventh-place finish. He shot 1-over 73 on Tuesday for a three-round total of 4-under 212. It was the fourth top-10 showing for him during his collegiate career. He was the runner-up at the tournament last season.

Virginia’s four other competitors all tied for 16th place at 1-over 217. Paul Chang turned in the Cavaliers’ best final-round score shooting even par 72. Ben James and George Duangmanee each shot 74 while Bryan Lee finished with a round of 75.

UCLA’s Luke Powell took medalist honors at 17-under 199.

Virginia will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule in mid-October when the Cavaliers compete at the Golf Club of Georgia Invitational on Oct. 13-15.
