Virginia Squash Announces 2023-24 Schedules
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head coach Mark Allen announced the schedules for the Cavalier men’s and women’s squash teams’ 2023-24 seasons on Thursday (Oct. 5). UVA will host five women’s and five men’s matches at the McArthur Squash Center.
“With this year’s change to the format of the national championships, our opening goal for both the men’s and women’s teams will be to win the matches necessary to qualify for the A division championship weekend being held at the very end of March,” said head coach Mark Allen. “There will be no time to ease into the schedule as some of our toughest and most important matches are coming early in the season. The players have been working hard and training well for over a month now, so I’m confident we will be ready”.
Both squads open their seasons on Saturday, Nov. 4, with the women at home hosting Georgetown while the men play at MASC opponent Navy. The women will get a warm-up ahead of the official opener when they face Drexel and Stanford in a pair of scrimmages on Saturday, Oct. 21, at The St. James in Springfield, Va.
Both teams will host Harvard (Dec. 2) and Dartmouth (Dec. 3) at home right before finals break. The men will also face MIT at home in a conference match on Friday, Dec. 1.
The teams return to action with a road trip to Chatham (Jan. 19) and Dickinson (Jan. 20) before competing in the MASC tournament Feb. 9-11 at the Arlen Specter Center in Philadelphia.
The CSA National Team Championships features a new format this year with two tournament divisions. The top 12 teams will compete in the A division from Feb. 29 – Mar. 3. The B&C Divisions, which will be teams ranked No. 13 and lower in the end-of-season rankings, will compete Feb. 15-18 at the Arlen Specter Center in Philadelphia.
Providing both the men’s and women’s teams qualify for the A division, UVA will host Princeton (Feb. 17) and Cornell (Feb. 18). If the teams are in the B division, they will compete at The Arlen Specter Center at the B division Championships that weekend instead.
“With this year’s change to the format of the national championships, our opening goal for both the men’s and women’s teams will be to win the matches necessary to qualify for the A division championship,” Allen said.
