Washington Added to Biletnikoff Award Watch List
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia wide receiver Malik Washington was one of five additions to the 2023 Biletnikoff Award Watch List on Thursday. Going into week six action, Washington leads the ACC in receiving yards (556) and receptions (37).
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season’s outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football’s outstanding receiver, not merely college football’s outstanding wide receiver.
With 119 receiving yards vs. JMU, 141 at Maryland and 170 against NC State, Washington became the third Cavalier ever (Dontayvion Wicks – 2021 & Germane Crowell – 1997) to record three-straight 100-yard receiving games in a season. Last week against Boston College, he had 97 yards yards, three shy of becoming the first Cavalier ever to have four-straight 100-yard receiving games.
Washington has caught a pass in 30-consecutive games dating back to his time at Northwestern. He is 96 yards away from 2,000 receiving yards for his career and his 1,904 receiving yards are the third-most of any active player in the ACC. Washington has racked up 681 all-purpose yards which ranks him second among his ACC cohorts and 17th in all of FBS.
