Competition Concludes at the Tennessee Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. –  Six members of the Virginia women’s tennis team competed as individuals at the Tennessee Invitational Friday through Sunday in Knoxville, Tenn.

Individuals from Tennessee, Princeton, Ohio State, And Kentucky competed in the tournament.

Grad student Natasha Subhash picked up the 100th singles victory of her career on Saturday, topping Zoe Hammond of Kentucky 6-3, 6-2. She went 3-0 in singles in the tournament.

Meggie Navarro, Blanca Pico-Navarro, Nicole Kiefer, Sara Ziodato and Mélodie Collard also competed in the tournament.

Fall individual season wraps up next week at the 2023 ITA Fall National Championships being held  Nov. 1-5 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.  Subhash, Collard, Hibah Shaikh and Annabelle Xu will compete in the doubles draw of the championship while Shaikh will also compete in singles.

• Natasha Subhash topped Shelly Bereznyak of Ohio State 7-6 (9), 6-4
• Mélodie Collard fell 7-6 (1), 6-3 against Teah Chavez of Ohio State
• Blanca Pico Navarro fell 6-1, 6-1 against Luciana Perry of Ohio State
• Meggie Navarro fell 7-5, 6-3 against Audrey Spencer of Ohio State
• Nicole Kiefer fell 6-3, 6-3 against Madeline Atway of Ohio State
• Kiefer and Collard won 6-3 against Catherine Aulia and Esther Adeshina of Tennessee
• Navarro and Pico Navarro fell 6-1 against Lauren Anzalotta and Sofia Cabezas of Tennessee

Saturday

• Subhash won 6-3, 6-2 against Zoe Hammond of Kentucky, the 100th singles victory of her career
• Collard topped Leena Bennetto of Princeton 6-2, 6-2
• Pico Navarro won 6-4, 6-2 against Elizabeth Stevens of Kentucky
• Navarro won 7-5, 6-4 against Maialen Morante of Kentucky
• Kiefer fell 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 against Ellie Myers of Kentucky
• Navarro and Pico Navarro won 6-4 against Madeline Atway and Dani Schoenly of Ohio State
• Collard and Subhash were edged 7-6 (4) by Audrey Spencer and Luciana Perry of Ohio State

Friday

• Subhash won 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 against Elza Tonase of Tennessee
• Ziodato fell 6-1, 7-6 (6) against Sofia Cabezas of Tennessee
• Pico Navarro fell 7-5, 6-3 against Lauren Anzalotta
• Collard fell 7-5, 6-4 against Alana Wolfberg of Tennessee
