PHILADELPHIA– The No. 8 Virginia men’s squash team (2-3, 2-0 MASC) suffered an 8-1 loss at No. 1 Penn (4-0) on Saturday (Nov. 18) at the Penn Squash Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Senior Maxwell Velazquez earned the point for the Cavaliers with a 7-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-8 victory at six. Velazquez improved to 4-1 this season.

Sophomore JP Tew challenged Penn’s top player, Omar Hafez, through five games. Hafez opened with an 11-4 win, but Tew took the second 12-10. Hafez edged ahead with an 11-6 win in the third game, but Tew countered again with an 11-9 win. Hafez took the decider 11-2 to earn the point.
