Hoos Back
Virginia returns a pair of All-American milers from the 2023 Indoor Track & Field season, Margot Appleton and Conor Murphy. Appleton returns to the track after a fourth-place finish in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships and a third-place finish in the 1500 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Murphy led a group of impressive Cavalier middle-distance runners in 2023. In his junior season, Murphy set the Virginia mile record with his time of 3:55.24 on a day when four other Cavaliers broke the four-minute barrier on the same day (Wes Porter, Gary Martin, James Donahue and Nate Mountain). Cutting his distance in half, Murphy continued his success in the 2023 outdoor season placing fifth in the 800 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Up Next
Following the winter break, Virginia will pick up the season with consecutive meets at Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers will first compete at the Virginia Tech Invitational (Jan. 12-13) and the Hokie Invitational (Jan. 19-20)
