Thiam, Annor Named on Top Drawer Soccer All-America Teams
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia standouts Mouhameth Thiam and Stephen Annor both picked up All-American accolades on Monday (Dec. 18) as announced by Top Drawer Soccer. Thiam was named a second team All-American while Stephen Annor was selected to the Freshman Best XI first team.
Stephen Annor earns national honors for the second time this season after being named a third-team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches. Thiam earns All-American accolades for the first time in his career. The two Cavaliers are the first to receive postseason honors from Top Drawer Soccer since 2019 when three Cavaliers were named to the first and second teams while Andreas Ueland was a first team all-freshman selection.
A versatile attacking midfielder, Thiam was utilized in various positions over the course of his lone season in Charlottesville. Thiam was named the ACC Co-Midfielder of the Year and a first team All-ACC selection after recording 14 points on five goals and four assists. With a knack for showing up in the clutch moments, Thiam led UVA with 6 involvements on game-winning goals in 2023.
The first Cavalier to record double-digit goals since Daryl Dike in 2019, Annor was named the 2023 ACC Freshman of the Year while also earning a spot on the All-ACC First Team. The UVA standout striker led the team with 10 total goals while recording two multi-goal games. Of his 10 goals, seven were scored in league play, a mark that was tied for the lead in the conference.
